Terror & Tears

Chapter 3

Karen was scared. She had no idea what day or what time it was. All she did know was that she had no idea what the Whisperer had been talking about. She had never killed anything in her life, not even a spider. She had no clue as to what was going on. She heard a door open, and then heard two sets of footsteps coming down stairs. One set was heavier than the other. Karen heard whimpering and then heard something fall to the ground. She stood up waiting for anything or someone to touch her but nothing did. One set of footsteps went back up the stairs then the door opened and closed again. Karen fell to the ground searching for whatever had been left near her. She moved forward about four feet and found what had been dropped. She touched it and felt something wet. Karen wasn’t sure what it was but she knew it couldn’t be good. The body in front of her whimpered and Karen guessed it was another woman. She felt her way up to the other woman’s shoulders and then sat the woman up. Karen tried to wake her by shaking her but there was no response. Karen was glad that there was someone there with her again to help try to figure things out. She sat beside the woman and laid her head in her lap, waiting for the woman to wake up.

When the other woman woke up, she heard words but couldn’t quite make them out. She also felt something on her legs almost holding her still but not quite. The woman’s face and body came into focus. The woman noticed that she was in a dark room with someone else but without being able to see clearly she had no idea who that person was. “Who are you?” She said in a panicked voice.

“My name is Karen; who are you?” Karen tried to sound calm.

“My name is Michelle. Where am I?”

“I don’t know where we are, I was brought here a while ago. Do you know what day it is?”

“Monday, I think? How long have you been here?” Michelle spoke quietly as she felt the panic subside.

“Three days.” Karen was relieved and mostly scared. She had been in this dark place and she had lost all sense of time. Michelle was just about to ask something when the door opened and Karen heard the whispering again.

Karen felt her hair being pulled and then was dragged by it up the stairs. Karen heard Michelle start to cry and as Karen was being removed she remembered the name of the woman who was here before her…Jeanette.

Karen was placed in a hard chair, and then strapped down by large fuzzy straps that crossed her chest and then her hips. She felt the straps tightening and a very sharp pain in her back. Next she felt her hair being cut off and then a loud buzzing sound shaving off what remained of her long beautiful hair. It was at that moment that Karen realized that she couldn’t see; not because of the darkness but because she was blind. The Whisperer was whispering the same passage that he had coming down stairs and Karen was terrified. She was strapped down, blinded, and only God knew what was in store for her next.

“Do you know what you have done Karen?” The Whisperer asked in her ear. Karen tried to speak but all she could do was shake her head.

“You have committed the ultimate sin and I have been tasked by God himself to ensure that you pay the price for that sin.”

“I didn’t kill anyone!” Karen finally found a small voice in amongst the terror.

“Perhaps not intentionally, but you have killed and you have not repented for your sin. Now you must pay the ultimate price if you are to be given the gift of eternal life.”

Karen started to sob. The Whisperer posed another question, “Do you repent Karen?”

“I have nothing to repent for!” Karen managed to squeak out. “Tell me what you are talking about!”

The Whisperer said nothing and Karen heard footsteps coming toward her again

“You will be forgiven!” The Whisperer spoke into her ear.

Karen felt a sharp pain and then nothing. Her last thoughts were of terror and her eyes were filled with tears.
