Terror & Tears
Chapter 28
Darrell parked his car in the driveway and looked at his front door. He had had the front door replaced today while he was at work, thanks to Mrs. Conrad. The lights were on at the Conrad’s so Darrell knew he had made it home in time to get the new door keys. He got out of his car and locked it up, for the first time since he bought it. He started to walk over to see Mrs. Conrad and just before he got to her walkway she was opening her front door.
“There you are dear, here are your new house keys and Schrödinger has decided to take refuge in my laundry room. Would you like me to get him?”
“Thanks Mrs Conrad. And no, I’ll go get him.” Darrell smiled at the elderly lady and went in and got his cat. As he left with Schrödinger in his hands, Mrs Conrad gave the cat a pat and gave Darrell a kiss.
“Sleep better you two.”
“Thank you Mrs. Conrad from both myself and Schrödinger.”
Darrell and Schrödinger walked to their new front door, used the keys and walked in. Darrell shut the door and put down the cat who automatically went to his food dish, sniffed it and then climbed the staircase to bed. Darrell locked the door and walked in to his house. He sat on the couch and turned on the television and grabbed his gun and put it on the coffee table. Darrell stood, took off his jacket and grabbed the bottle of Jack Daniels from the edge of the table. As he slowly unscrewed the cap, he thought about the day. Just when he was going to take a swig of the brown liquor, he stopped, screwed the lid back on and then put the bottle down back where he got it from. Darrell stood up and looked around; he must have a piece of paper around somewhere. As he got up and walked around he remembered the one thing that got him through the Academy…”TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!”
Darrell started to frantically search his house for some paper, finally he found an envelope, and he opened it all the way up and drew a picture.

Darrell looked at his picture, it was crude as to what he was trying to show but it got what he wanted to accomplished. As he spun the picture he drew around and around, he occasionally stopped it to see what it looked like from each angle. He stopped spinning the drawing and looked at it again. Darrell decided that there had to be two perps. There was no other way to it. Darrell’s head started to bang. That was the end of whatever he was trying to think. He grabbed his gun and went up to bed. He put his gun on the bed side table and got undressed. Schrödinger was lying in his usual spot on the bed and Darrell crawled in beside him. Darrell turned off the light and rolled onto his side, putting his arm under the pillow and closed his eyes. Flashes of color pulsated behind his eyelids and as the colors slowed and turned to darkness, Darrell finally fell asleep.
