Terror & Tears

Chapter 27

Gayle walked into her house, locked the door behind her and dropped the keys on the side table. She walked to the closet, opened it and pulled out the gun safe. She locked her badge in the safe and then put it back on the shelf, closed the closet door and walked into the kitchen. As she put water in the kettle, she turned and noticed a piece of paper. She plugged the kettle in and then turned and read the note

“DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN, OR THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES!”

Gayle ripped up the note as small as she could get it and placed it in the garbage disposal. Gayle watched as the pieces were ground up until she was barely able to recognize any trace of the note. The whistle of the kettle startled her and she jumped. Gayle turned the garbage disposal off and then the kettle. She grabbed the tea bags and made herself a cup of tea. She looked around the kitchen to make sure all the windows were closed and locked and then grabbed her gun, went to the bathroom and started the bath water and then placed her gun in the night side table. When she returned to the bathroom, the water was at the right spot. She turned the water off and undressed. She got in the water and sank into the tub. She laid quietly, one hand on her cup of tea and another on the other side of the tub. She took a large sip of tea and then closed her eyes and sank a little further under the water. The water seemed to wash away the troubles of the day. As she slowly let herself drift away her hands slowly fell into the water.
